DEREHAM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES
"DEREHAM FESTIVAL AT THE MARQUEE"
As already announced, Dereham Festival will take place between 9th and 17th May, 2008.
In addition to a full programme of events around the town, an additional feature has been added this year. Throughout the week a 100 seat marquee with stage, dance floor and sound equipment will be erected in the garden of The Kings Head Hotel in the town. To be known as "Dereham Festival At The Marquee", the venue will stage a daily programme of performances showcasing local talent.
The Festival Committee is seeking local performers, choirs, musical groups or other performers to take part in the programme. According to Alan West, Coordinator of the marquee programme, "the idea is to provide the facility for people, groups and entertainers from around the area of all ages and levels of experience to book a spot with us and to come along and show everyone the range of talent we have in the area. The public will be able to attend free of charge and we really hope to make it a hub of activity throughout the week. The marquee will operate throughout the day on most days of the Festival and there will be three late nights. We are most grateful for The Kings Head Hotel to provide this facility in such a central area of the town"
To mark the start of the Festival, on the morning of Saturday 10th May the Smoke House Blues Marching Band will march through the town to end up at The Kings Head Hotel around mid-day. After an opening ceremony there will be a full programme of entertainment for the rest of the afternoon. In addition to the performers in the marquee, the Festival is looking for others to join the parade to the Kings Head. "So if you are a member of a group who would like to take part in the parade, or if you would perhaps like to dress a vehicle for the occasion we would like to hear from you" said Mr West.
The programme for the entire Festival will be published in March. Concerts ranging from classical, choral, rock, country and western, and other popular music have already been announced in venues such as Memorial Hall, Assembly Rooms and in several churches in the area.
